10 Drops for the Festive Season, with Too Many Vinos
Stuck for wine to gift and drink this festive season? We asked our go-to, Southwest wine buff Too Many Vinos for her top 10 drops to get you through the summer months ahead.
‘100% Chardonnay from Avize and has spent 68 months resting on lees in the cool underground cellars carved out from chalk. Thin bubbles, fruity fragrances blend with young almonds and fresh butter notes. Pair this with crunchy quail with raisins or even a well-cooked lamb shoulder.
‘An elegant Rosé of vibrant, light-salmon hues, crafted from estate-grown Chardonnay, with a small portion of Pinot Noir. Pair this with glazed salmon, roast duck or enjoy as an aperitif with cheese and lean cured meats.’
‘A blend of Chenin Blanc and Vermentino, fermented separately before blending in stainless steel and being spiked with some fresh Chenin Blanc juice to give the lil’ yeasties some sugar to turn into fizz. Then enjoy some super delicious, fresh, green apple, pear skin and salty fizz. Get your night, or Christmas morning started with this drop.’
‘100% Chardonnay, a rich, precise nose of grapefruit zest, white peach and citrus blossom. Balanced by a moreish salted lime acid and framed by beautiful tight-grained French oak elegance. Pair this with fresh seafood or chicken.’
‘Immaculate, powerful, intense nose with purity and clarity of primary fruit characterised by pear, white peach, lime curd and custard apple. There are infinite layers of brioche, grilled hazelnuts, cinnamon quill, shaved nutmeg, black cardamom and almond meal.’
‘From the vines in Manjimup, a much cooler climate, the winemaker embarked on producing a delicate and joyful expression of Pinot Noir in a light, bright, savoury style. The wine presents with delicate and silky berry fruits such as raspberry and plum on the palate, along with soft spices and a bit of sweetness.’
‘The Pirate Blend contains three Portuguese varieties: Touriga Nacional for structure and depth. Tinta Cao for aroma and finesse. Sousao is the darkest berry I know, and you know what they say, the darker the berry, the sweeter the fruit. All the fruit was hand picked from 40 year old dry grown vines in Yallingup. Soft silky tannins with an exotic mix of red berry fruit sweetness and cocoa on the palate.’
‘89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot. Youthful and balanced, fine tannins, winner of the Best Red Blend Trophy at Qantas Wine Awards WA. Pair with a medium-rare grilled eye fillet or roast lamb.’
‘The nose has a floral citrus blossom lift with fruit characters of lemon, lime, grapefruit, apple, pear & quince. The palate is silky smooth, succulent, featuring flavours of glazed pear & citrus with a light, delicate, refreshing, mouth-watering finish. Sublime with lemon meringue pie.’
Made purely in Italian amphora with hand harvested grapes. Salted plum, brined black olive, dried green herb and soft in texture. Pair this one with beef ribs.
